If you’re someone who has been paying attention to the news there’s been a frenzy surrounding vapes, and in particular cannabis vapes.Vape related illnesses that have been showing up in the news lately are no joke – we thought we’d take a moment to help clear up some of the confusion as to what’s safe, what’s used in the various distillates, and how they relate to our cannabis products, specifically.
There have been reports of mineral oils, MCT oils, especially vitamin E oil and tocopherol ending up in cannabis vapes, and causing illnesses. vitamin E oil is converted to vitamin E acetate upon heating, and that’s the most widely reported cause of these illnesses and deaths.
It seemed to come up suddenly – and while it did – we in the industry saw it coming a mile away. Vape cartridges are filled with a form of cannabis concentrate – the most common is distillate – but many others use rosin, shatter or cherry/honey oil. The trouble is most of these are simply too thick to work in a vaporizer system “as-is” and need to be diluted with something to flow properly. Thinners need to be used. Most completely avoid glycol based solutions – despite their safety being shown in the traditional ecig markets. The highest quality solutions in the cannabis industry favour natural terpenes.
So users began to associate the “thickness” of the distillate contained as a measure of THC purity. If it was too thin it was assumed your product was weak and wouldn’t sell. Too thick and it doesn’t work right – with burnt tastes and headaches. Often ignoring the role that other compounds besides THC have, in favour of the highest THC content. Some vendors in the industry began offering thickeners to manufacturers. Then manufacturers could achieve a higher quality “look” while using fewer expensive cannabis products.
Some thickeners contain Vitamin E Oil. Some people saw “foodsafe” and think “safe for every purpose” began using various oils to thicken their distillate used in carts in an effort to cut costs and make a more appealing looking product. The result of such oil being used in vapes is the oil is vaporized, and then it ends up coating the lungs. Water based vapour like that when you vape cannabis, or e cigarettes leaves less residue are more easily handled by your lungs than an oil. The lungs are TERRIBLE at dealing with anything other than gasses – so when the oil builds ups it can end up effectively suffocating the user.
We’re committed to the best quality here at BCBUD.store – None of the vapes sold in our store use thickeners, or contain essential oils. Our Mila Jade LOW KEY cartridges use only Cannabis distillates, and fruit derived terpenes to thin and flavour them. Our partners use 2nd Generation CCELL cartridges, or carts certified by the state of California to pass heavy metal certifications. We’ve had the LOW KEY carts tested by an independent 3rd party and they have also passed heavy metal certification. You can see the results on the LOW KEY page itself.
We love our handy line of cannabis vapes – but we completely understand any concerns you have. We’re confident enough to use these things on the daily for months, and in some cases years with no ill effects. West Coast Smoke Co, Mila Jade Collections, and NotNamed, are among our trusted brands. We’re confident that these vaping products are among the safest.
All of the evidence hasn’t come in yet, and we will be sure to keep you up to date with any new developments. There is evidence to suggest that this tragedy was caused by a contaminant in a specific batch of vitamin e oil used – otherwise it likely would have been far more widespread. If you’re going to avoid vapes in the near future until more information comes out we’ve still got you covered!
For the ultimate in purity pick up some Golden Goo, or Aurea Extracts and use them on a glass nail, or you could always go back to your favourite strain of cannabis! No matter what you choose, know that we are committed to the quality of our products. You can’t build or maintain a solid business on shoddy practices that make your loyal customers sick, and we strive to make sure that our customers are our customers for all the right reasons.
